'THE HORSES OF SAN MARCO' are inspirational and magnificent; this soft pastel illustration on cartridge reflecting two heads of the mythological horses of San Marco. The ancient and wondrous metal sculptures originally standing in 4th century byzantine Constantinople were looted and stood in the basilica of San Marco, until Napoleon removed them to Paris for a short stay, following which they were returned to Venice. Size 40 x 30 cm; including signed poem.
